Great at Capturing Velocity but Changes my POI Significantly

Written on Aug 20, 2023

I purchased the Magnetospeed Chrono because I was trying to estimate my bullets' velocities based on POI at 100 yards and 200 yards but folks told me I really needed a Chrono. I didn't want to spend a ton of money and thought that something attached to the end of the Rifle barrel (versus downrange) would be much simpler to use. When I received the unit, I read all the directions and attached it exactly as instructed. Initially, I used the thinner rubber mount pad with unit set to Hi 1 sensitivity (which is what it recommends for 6.5 Creedmoor caliber). What surprised me was that my POI @ 200 yards was 4 1/2" higher with the Chrono attached than without it attached. I really thought I must have messed something up so I returned to the Range a few days later but decided to try out the thicker rubber mount pad. However, the results were exactly the same, my POI @ 200 yards was 4 1/2" higher with the Chrono attached than without it attached. On my 2nd Range trip, I initially shot 10 rounds without the Chrono, then shot 10 rounds with the Chrono (after the barrel cooled) and these were the results that I found. During my 1st Range outing with the Chrono, I thought it may have been a Scope issue but that doesn't appear to be the case. I made sure the Chrono was fastened exactly as instructed and stayed firmly in place. Folks say that I'm probably affecting the barrel's Harmonics but how do you account for a 2 1/4 MOA shift? The very last Theory I had was perhaps the Chro

Opted for Eylar's 48" Hard Rifle Case for My AR-10

Written on May 23, 2023

I had previously purchased a Case Club Hard Rifle Case for my AR-15 and it had guns outline precut along with other precuts for Mags, Utility Case, etc. When I attempted to purchase a Case Club Hard Rifle Case for my AR-10, it initially appeared that the internal dimensions were fine with precuts similar to my previous case. I was very close to purchasing when I noticed that the precuts had the AR-10's buttstock quite a distance from the edge of the case and, as a result, my AR-10 would not fit in the internal dimensions unless I purchased my own foam and started from scratch. Since Case Club is expensive along with their foam, I searched around and found the Eylar 48" Hard Case which was perfect for my needs. I'm not a fan of the pick-n-pluck foam that came with the Eylar case so I purchased foam from Case Club so I could do all the cutouts myself. I love the case, it's deeper than my AR-15 case from Case Club and it's longer too. The locking mechanism is nearly identical so I purchased the exact same locks that I used for my AR-15 case. I made a couple changes with cutouts along the way because I plan to have 6 Magazines along with the one on the AR-10 itself. I have plenty of room left for other additions if I decide to add some extra items to the case. I will warn folks that carrying my AR-10 with Scope, Bipod, Mags, in this case isn't child's play. I'm so glad I made this purchase - the case it rock solid and perfectly fit my need!

Excellent Electronic Earmuffs with NRR = 25 dB; No Instructions; Fragile Battery Cover

Written on May 19, 2022

I really wanted to give the AXIL Trackr Electronic Earmuffs a rating of 4.5 Stars but since that isn't an option, I had to scale down. First, a couple minor issues with the Earmuffs - there were no instructions that came in the box (but not too hard to figure out) and second, the Battery Compartment Cover is very sheer and I was worried about damaging the cover after installing the batteries. Now the Pros; the Earmuffs are fairly comfortable and I put them on with and without my Eye Protection and wore them for a couple hours - I knew I had them on but not too uncomfortable. They are a bit snug but that is required for the 25 dB NRR Rating. I haven't been to the range yet but ran some preliminary tests at home. When I put the Volume up high, everything is amplified including AC Exhaust, dryer, fans, dog walking across flooring, etc. Most of the time I left the Volume at a normal level so it was similar to the volume you would hear without headphones on. The next test I did was to slap the side of my leg and the volume was definitely muffled. I then went into the garage, picked up a cooler to about 3 feet, and dropped it with and without the Earmuffs on and what a difference; when I had the Earmuffs on, I could hear the impact but very subdued. What I'm most concerned about however is the sound when I'm at the indoor range with my 10mm handgun. The issue is that the gun produces somewhere around 163 db of sound using heavy/high velocity ammunition. Given the 25 dB N
