I think that everyone who gives this trigger a look is put off by the price at first. This trigger is super crisp and dropped into my Arsenal SLR-104FR without any modification. I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest replacing your twisted hammer spring with an AGL Defense High Energy Spring and throw away the shepherds hook and install a Krebs Custom Guns hammer and trigger retainer plate. There is an optional small spring to add more tension to the trigger that takes a bit of finess to install but is an excellent addition. The hammer disconnector spring stays put during installation with a small dollop of grease. The only, and I mean only down side is that the tail on the trigger disconnector has a maddening tendency to smash the large rivet that attaches the trigger guard to the bottom of the receiver. AGL suggests grinding or chamfering the rivet; I cut the tail off the end of the disconnector and have not had any issue with double fires from hammer slap. A very, very excellent trigger that makes my AK even more accurate in slow fire.
I can’t tell where this scope is manufactured (probably in China like everything else) but it is an amazing value for the price. The glass is top quality. I particularly like the locking knobs built into the turrets. I use this scope for pig hunting in Texas and the reticle is fantastic.
My lovely wife surprised me with the coyote-tan version. I am able to put two thirty-round mags into each pouch and really like the long velcro flap instead of the bungee cord retainers. I have found that manufacturers cater (understandably) to the much more prevalent AR-15 market and this is an excellent offering for us AK guys. I use the two smaller mag pouches for my Glock mags. This really is a nice mag pouch rig and for the price cannot be beaten.
Magpul makes quality products to make an AK variant an even more useful tool. I highly recommend the Magpul Zhukov if for no other reason than the M-LOK system allows you to attach more handy devices nearer to the centerline of the bore. It will of necessity require you to Dremel off the forward hand guard retainer. Much like getting pregnant or getting your first tattoo...it is permanent. I watched several YouTube videos (Mr.Gunsngear, Brownells,Inc., sootch00, Armslist Media, etc.) and it took a long time to work up the courage to make the decision to remove the forward hand guard retainer. Once you make that decision it installs very easily and I highly recommend that you install an Ultimak M1-B optic mount in place of the stock gas tube for optics, night lights, etc. I am very happy that I made this decision and I would recommend this product to anyone.
Let's face it...an AK-47/74 is not a scalpel but more of a hatchet. When a hatchet gets dull you swing it harder and it will amputate limbs with no problem. I installed this precision trigger on my Arsenal SLR-104FR and it dropped in with no modifications to my rifle or the trigger and hammer trunnions. I use a Krebs Custom safety selector and the included roll pin was not required on my rifle. I chose to install the included auxiliary trigger spring which was a bit tricky but if you are confident to disassemble and reinstall your trigger group without adult supervision you will be able to pull this off with no problem. The first thing I noticed when doing the first function check was at how crisp this trigger is compared to the US/Bulgarian trigger that came with my rifle. There is a noticeable reduced amount of take-up prior to the trigger breaking when compared to what you are used to but you will quickly incorporate this into your trigger squeeze. As I stated in the title, this trigger is $20 or more than a Tapco G2 (which is a very respectable trigger) but I am very pleased with how easy it was to literally "drop-in" to my rifle. Consult the ALG website for recommendations before installing this trigger into your AK variant.
