So good, it is boring.

Written on Sep 22, 2023

Magpul just makes good products at reasonable. So much that they basically became an unofficial standard. These QD sling swivels are no exception. They are sturdy and the button is one of the smoothest to operate with removing it from a QD port. I have bought QD swivels from different companies with slight variants in design. But this one just works the best somehow without being flashy. It is hard to explain. It doesn't look like the most high speed swivel, yet it performs excellently. This one is honestly the best in terms of QD swivels.

A stock with lots of configurations.

Written on May 05, 2023

In full honesty, I bought this stock mainly because it was one of the only ones in stock at the time that had most of the features I wanted. I was building an AR pattern rifle with an upper that didn't require a buffer system. Do naturally, I wanted a stock that folds. But in my case, I also needed a stock that had cheek riser options and I wanted length adjustability. The main connthat made me reluctant to buy the stock was the weight. At just over a pound, I have been trying to keep the weight down as much as possible since I intend to mount a red dot, magnifier, tac light, IR iluminator, etc. Still, despite the weight, stock is very solid and very adjustable. I was able to get a perfect cheek weld while not having to hunch so much and yet the stock was still firmly in my shoulder. The folding mechanism is pretty easy to engage and stays put when folded. Absolutely no play or wobble. Plus I like the minimalist design of it. I do wish the cheek riser could be adjusted without taking out screws. But it is a very small gripe. Overall, even if it is heavier than some other 1913 compatible stocks, This stock gives you more ways to optimize your rifle to your shooting style. You also have several qd points for a sling if you need them. Even with the weight, it hardly feels heavy in practice. While it wasn't my first choice, it turned out to be a fantastic addition to my rifle, especially for the price.

A significant Improvement

Written on Apr 21, 2023

I love the concept of the Foxtrot Mike uppers. However, the charging handle position can be quirky depending on how you hold your rifle. This lever is definitely a little more out of the way. It's nicely machined and tough. The extra space on the handle also gives you much more grip which helps A LOT, since the dual telescoping springs can be tough to rack completely at certain angles. Overall, this small upgrade actually did improve the overall function of my rifle. However, one gripe that I do have is that there isn't a lot of info on how to remove the original charging handle. Most vids and even one interview with the founder of Foxtrot Mike suggested that you only have to remove the set screws in front of the charging handle. But in my case, I also had to take off the entire handguard and loosen to charging rod as it was also holding the charging handle in place with the threaded end of the rod. It was fitted perfectly into the opposite groove of the original charging handle, so this seems deliberate. I don't know if only certain uppers have the handle secured this way or if this is a new feature. It's also a little misleading that this replacement piece only has on cut at the front, suggesting that it is only meant to be held in place by the set screws. It fits perfectly where the original had been, but I also had to modify the charging rod since there was no longer a cut for the threaded end of the charging rod to sit in. This would cause the rod to keep the bolt slight

A Fantastic Basic Parts Kit.

Written on Apr 07, 2023

I was building a rifle from scratch, but I had planned to use a drop in trigger. So I didn't want Parts like the trigger group or too many spare parts. I would say that, despite just being standard Parts, they just seem a little more high quality than a basic Milspec kit. Just subtle details that make the firearm more pleasurable to use. Still, I didn't buy it because they are slightly nicer. I just trust CMMG to make parts that fit well and work. While there are cheaper kits that can do the job, these do inspire confidence. If you need a minimal parts kit that you can fully trust, this might be the right kit to buy.

User Friendly and Tough.

Written on Mar 24, 2023

It is a very simple setup. The ability to switch the light from left to right is a nice feature, though I kept it in right hand configuration. In the years that I have had it,it has not failed me once as long as I check the batteries from time to time. Good throw. Gives me all the light I need for defense encounters. However, one of the issues with having the switch design to sit on the rail next to the light is that it can limit your options if you intend to run other devices like IR iluminators/designator. It can also limit how far you can have your light near the end of the rifle since the switch needs to be close enough to your hand to be comfortably activated. I have it on a CMMG Banshee with an 8" barrel, so it works fine for my needs. But it won't please everyone. It is also a little on the heavy side. If I had to be completely honest, it is a tad pricey for what it does. It does make up for most of it with its easy design, batteries that allow you to recharge, and sheer ruggedness. If you want something simplistic, reliable, and possibly for a short setup, this would be a sound choice. But it won't be ideal for every role.

Fantastic backup sights.

Written on Mar 10, 2023

I have had these on my CMMG Banshee for a few years. They add very little weight and are definitely lower profile than several iron flip sights on the market. Despite their minimalist design, they are very sturdy. Once you are zeroed, they won't budge. The rear sight is unique in that it has a mid sized ring instead of a wide open for close range and small ring for precision like traditional AR sights. It is a decent compromise to keep the sight system simple. They are more than adequate for pistol caliber carbines for sure. You could even run them on a 5.56 rifle though they might not be as ideal for extended ranges. But they will still get the job done at a distance if need be. Still, they are meant to be backups. Overall, they are a great option for PCC's, people who don't intend to go long range with iton sights, or people who are going to use optics most of the time but still want a backup plan.

Pretty much what you expect from bore brushes.

Written on Nov 05, 2021

This is the first full set that I bought. Usually I use bore snakes, individual kits, or cleaning kits that come with fireamrs(surplus, etc.) As of late, my collection has grown considerably and I found that some rifles need more thourough cleaning than others. As a result, I found that it was best to get a full set. These are good quality. Plenty of tips for exact bore cleaning. You certainly won't be disappointed. The case is nice as well.

A simple and rugged platform

Written on Feb 03, 2021

This light works well and is very durable. I have it mounted on my CMMG banshee. Though it looks kind of chunky, it doesn't feel bad, nor does it interfere with the way I hold my rifle. I worried that the battery life would not be adequate, but I have not had any issues. The ability to recharge batteries is also a plus. It provides a great bright beam.. The only issue I have is that I wish I could mount the light slightly more forward on my handguard. Because I have backup irons, there is just barely too much material forward on the mount so it just doesn't fit when I try to mount it closer to my front sight post. Not a problem if you don't run backup irons, but I believe in having a defense gun that will run no matter what. As a result, it is slightly awkward Reaching back slightly to turn on the light. However, that is mostly just a problem that comes from how I have my gun setup and how I hold it. Most people won't have the same issue. It is simple and easy to mount, it will work through most conditions, and will save you money in the long run. If you want something easy to mount and reliable, this might be the light for you.

A well made and durable case.

Pretty self explanatory. I needed a case for my CMMG Banshee to get around subtly. Straps inside keep the pistol from rocking around inside, mag pouches are very useful for various types of mags. I love the color. great for ranges or casual shooting session. Only con is that you can't use it for air travel.

Excellent features and Value

Written on Nov 07, 2020

I had been hearing a lot about Holosun for years. But I really wanted one that was fit for field use(defense, drills, duty, etc.) While I had heard how much abuse Holosuns can take, lens caps, a flash killer, and a qd mount were very welcome features that sold me on the optic. Especially for the price. As for performance, the reticle is very crisp and offers plenty of brightness adjustments. Works fine on bright days and low light. Though I heard some people say that the mount it comes with is not the best, I have not had any shifts in zero in the time I have been running the optic. I also like the "donut of death" for additional reference in aiming at distance or with determining distance. The shake awake system is really nifty. Definitely helps on battery life. The ability to change how you want your reticle along with being able to switch from manual to automatic brightness adjustment makes this optic very versatile. In an age where optics and red dots are becoming practically standard for most modern rifles, it is ludicrous to expect simple dot optics to remain at prices above 500 bucks. If you ask me, even 400 is too high for a red dot these days. For people that want a good performing optic that also gives you lots of options in a sturdy package, this one gives you everything you need for defense and or duty. Even the simpler Holosuns are good if you don't want the additional lens caps and such. Also, the warrantee on this optic is nice. One thing I will say is that th
