There are many uses of a product like this and I discovered one out of necessity.
My girlfriend had emergency knee-replacement surgery and before leaving for her surgery, I thought about how I could provide the best pain relief for her as her pain-control meds and anesthesia wore off on the long drive home. She had a cryo-circulator from a previous surgery and while she was 8n surgery, I got a 10-pound bag of ice: filling the machine’s ice storage area with ice, by the time she was ready to leave the hospital, enough ice had melted to provide water for circulation in the pad that surrounded her knee; plugging the cryo-unit into Goal Zero’s battery receptacle, the unit circulated ice-cold water around the surgical incision and she had adequate pain relief during the long drive home.
The unit paid dividends three days later when a storm knocked out our power, and the cryo-cooling unit operated the 37 hours until power was restored.
We have used this unit several times to power a small freezer needed to store ice when rolling blackouts took down our neighborhood power mid-summer in California.
I purchased this scope in preparation for taking a long-distance shooting course.
It’s intuitive to use, easy to zero, and the glass is perfect (I’m an amateur astronomer and volunteer at a local observatory: I know good glass!). The elevation/windage knobs are crisp-moving and have a satisfying detent for tracking movement. The illuminated reticle made low-light shooting much easier, and I had to use it during an after-sunset target engagement: no problems. While my scope was the only one in the class that utilized a MOA reticle, I was shooting just as accurately as those using Milrad — including 4 military students.
The proof was in the pudding, so to speak: of 9 the
students, I was the only one to hit the most distant and final target (1047 meters) on the first shot and hit the bullseye all 10 times, owing more to luck and having an excellent scope, ammunition, and rifle.
I love shooting to the capability of my rifle and scope, not the other way around; I really detest buying a lesser product and finding that it doesn’t meet my needs — requiring that another better product must be secured: paying for quality twice is worse that paying for it once.
I’ve since been to a second distance-shooting course and noted that about 1/3 of the students use Vortex scopes.
Love the quality of the scope and its durability. Excellent glass. Love the reticle, too: a lot of thought and creativity went into that. Absolutely indestructible scope. Easy to use. Perfect for engaging numerous small targets at short ranges on a platform such as the Christensen Scout rifle, or on any AR-15. While quality scopes aren’t cheap, they last forever.
