I bought this for home protection at night. Know what you or who you are shooting at. A flashlight at the end of your shotgun is essential in my book. It was easy to install and is a very versatile flashlight mount. It will mount on a 12 gauge, a 20 gauge, and some 410 gauge.The mount comes with inserts that take up the space for smaller diameter gaige shotguns. You will have to trim the ribs on the inserts to fit it for a 20 gauge. I simply used a razor utility knife. I also used blue loctite on the screws to help keep the mount tight and stable. The mount has optional inserts for mounting flashlights with a smaller diameter than one inch. Most tac flashlights will fit without the optional insert. I bought a 10 pack of rear switch flashlights from Cabelas and I may just stick with that. For in home use I do not need a wide spread beam. If you plan on using your gun outside at night, you may want a more expensive tac light. One that is brighter, and has an adjustable beam. But for 10 dollars I got 6 flashlights that light up the room in my house. This will allow me to see the danger and make the decision weather or not to pull the trigger.

I have an Ithaca Defender model 37 with extended magazine and in the factory rare electroless nickel. After a thorough search and review for a no scratch secure non metal mount for my surefire light, the ONLY choice was the top shelf Elzetta. Without the metal on metal contact of other mounts, no worries installation with the addition of the thumbscrew, that it is right where it needs to be with a quickie on or off mount that withstands the hefty recoil without nary ever a slip. And one more thing. Getting old and cranky means mostly recoil is unnessasay so add the new adjustable Choate stock and a soft stroke Limbsaver to take the mules kick away means a LOT MORE shells down range without the expected bruises. Mostly well outfitted for any night time engagements. Yes, the Elzetta shotgun mount with thumbscrew is TOP SHELF. Besides, in contrast against the nickel finish, it REALLY looks kewl.
