Most Helpful Positive Review Very Surprised
After some research, I discovered Hawke was mostly an air-gun scope maker, trying to break into the "real gun" market. I was skeptical of this scope, but I gotta say,..I love it. I can't speak to how it tracks, because with this reticle, it doesn't matter. I have mine on a custom marlin 17hmr. The s...

Most Helpful Negative Review Would be a keeper if...
...the lens distance etching matched the real-world capabilities of the .17HMR. The closest zero point is at 100 yards and goes out to 350 yards. At 350 you would poke a hole in paper but that's about it, and that's not even taking into account wind deflection of that tiny bullet. The return is o...

On the money

by Rv, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on May 16, 2024
I mounted this scope on my Savage A17 bolt gun for varmint hunting in Central Oregon. I went to the range, zeroed the scope at 100 yards and then took the gear out to 200 yards using the BDC for 200 yards and could not be more pleased with the BDC accuracy and the ease at which the scope was to adjust at the range.

Scope for .17 HMR

by Regor, from WI, United States Written on March 6, 2023
After using the new scope I am ordering another one for my sons .17 HMR.
Absolutely love it for target and varmint shooting. I use illumination scopes on my deer hunting rifle so wanted this feature on my varmint rifle.

Good scope and it works with 17 gr or 20 gr ammo.

by squirrel hunter, from AR, United States Written on August 17, 2022
I put this on my ruger american 17hmr. I sighted it in with hornady 20 gr xtp ammo in on 10 power. I couldn't shoot pass 300 yds because is only 300 yds. The scope worked like it should. I was shooting pieces of clay pigeons at 225 yards. Now i need one for my 22 mag. Worth the money very happy
Pros:
  • Bdc works good happy i can use 17 gr or 20 gr ammo.
Cons:
  • Wish it picked up little more light in low light conditions.
Best Used for:
  • Only shot targets so far. Bought it for bobcat hunting.

Basically DOA

by Nick Alexander, Verified Owner from KS, United States Written on September 15, 2021
I want to love this scope as much as I love shooting my rpr 17hmr. The etched compensation, illumination options, the quality of the glass and the price. It really offers a lot. However, the illumination stopped functioning the second trip out. Went to remove the battery cover, completely jammed up. Had to take a rag and some pliers to it to get it off. All of my turrets feel super gummed up as well.

The rifle was zero'd at an indoor range (~74 degrees, 40% humidity) and then immediately placed into a safe with around the same temperature/humidity levels as the range. After sitting for a couple of weeks, the problems described above immediately started happening. Unfortunately for me, the wait in between shooting pushed me out of the return window.

Have yet to contact Hawke to RMA/replace. Also, not a good fit for the Ruger Precision 17hmr. Out of elevation adjustment with a 0 moa rail (what the rifle ships with from the factory) and out of elevation adjustment on the other end of the spectrum with a 30 moa rail (both within one MOA of zero when running out of elevation). Not Hawke's fault, just figured I'd note here.

Great item

by humancarl, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on February 9, 2021
Im a terrible shot, but improving. Didn't want to keep buying scopes as my skill level increased and the price point for this item raised an eyebrow.

Visually i can see the tiny 17 round punch paper at 100 yards as it happens. So I'm getting instant feedback, and saw a huge improvement in my consistency two mags after i dialed it in.

This item is perfect for me now, and i see it serving me perfectly for a very long time. It will be a long time before i shop around for another scope.

It's huge, it's heavy, it looks ridiculous on my tiny 17, but thats a good thing.

CZ457/17HMR w/Hawke Scope

by Al T., from WI, United States Written on January 4, 2021
Recently purchased a Hawke 17HMR 4-16 X50AO riflescope for my CZ457 bolt action 17HMR, heavy varmint barrel(20.5") in wood stock. I have a Bscar 11mm/25MOA rail mounted to the factory dovetail, and using Leopold "Rifleman" 1" rings(#55870), "High"(about a 1/2" from top of rail to bottom of saddle), with the 50mm objective I have about 1/8-3/16" of clearance under the front, that's without a sunshade(not included). Went to my range, and zeroed in with regular ammo. 25 degrees and slightly overcast, but good sight picture, and I can see the BDC marks clearly. Started at 28yds., then 50yds., then 100yds. to achieve the required zero(the crosshair starts at "100yds.", then proceeds downward 150yds., a dot for 175yds., 200yds., etc.). There is a small dot on the vertical stadia between each yardage down the ladder. Shoot zero with Hornady 17gr. V-Max @2,550fps, which is what the Hawke scope date requires for the BDC to be accurate. After zeroing, I set up a 4"metal gong at 175yds., and with the Hornady 17gr.V-Max, using the "dot" between the 150yd. & 200yd. notes, proceeded to hit on the first shoot, and hit 8 out of 10. It was a little cold and about 4-6" of snow on the ground, so we quit while I was satisfied. I was shooting on a bench with a chair, a bipod mounted on the front & a rear bag. Parallax on adjustable ocular was fairly stiff but very usable(keep in mind it was 25 degrees), and the magnification ring was OK, the covered windage & elevation dials were accurate, but...
