Let me preface with I know Lowa makes a quality product, this is no reflection on the company or their other models. The materials in the boot are very high quality. Problem is, there's just too much of them! I bought these months in advance of a November elk trip. I agonizingly researched boots and pulled the trigger on these. I rucked regularly in them during the summer and fall with no issues aside from them being heavy. It's on me that I didn't return them once feeling how heavy and cumbersome they were. Once on the mountain it was awful from step one. The closest analogy I can give is that this is like hiking in a ski boot. There is NO give at all. You're locked in. Which may appeal to some, it did not to me as I enjoy flex. It is a heavy and bulky boot, so if you enjoy being light on your feet this is not the boot for you. My heel cups were in tremendous pain every day, not an area I expected to give me problems. I assume this is because of the stiff material and lack of flex. I debated insulation or not as this is an argument you get for/against from everyone. I run very cold so I got the insulated boots and it was "okay". Feet never got too hot while hiking, but got plenty cold while sitting still +/- around the freezing mark. This boot is called "Extreme" and it is in every sense of the word.
Cons:
- Heavy
- cumbersome
- Stiff
- Painful Heel

I have a elk hunting trip planned for November and after much agonizing and analysis, I pulled the trigger on these! Wow!!! They did not disapoint! Only have about 10 miles on them so they are still a little stiff, but this is a serious boot for heavy packing and mountain hunting. Usually wear a 13 standard boot or sneakers. Bought the 13 medium. Tiny bit loose in the heel with thin hiking socks. With this lacing setup (which is amazing) I was able to lock the heel. No hot spots or blisters right out of the gate. First pair of high end boots really impressed with the build quality and attention to detail on these. Great transaction as always with OpticsPlanet.
Pros:
- Great support, insulated Mountain boot
Cons:
- Price, buy once, cry once
Best Used for:
- Late season Mountain hunting
