Most Helpful Positive Review Best LPVO on the market
First off don’t listen to reviews where these wanna be shooters talk about the center dot being 1.25 moa. They say that they can’t shoot at distance, so misleading. That is what the finer reticle sub tensions are for. You are not using the center dot to shoot 400 meters! These people know nothi...

Most Helpful Negative Review Disappointed with Nightforce
It is hard to imagine giving any Nightforce product a rating below 5 stars. This is my 4th Nightforce scope and the first time Nightforce has disappointed me. See Below: Pros: Weight - With many 1-4X optics weighing in at 16oz, the NX8's 17oz is impressive. Illumination - True daylight visibili...

Solid optic

High resolution glass , quality build. I recommend this scope; prefer the new FC-DMX reticle. Can’t go wrong with either one

Excellent LPVO scope

by Jim P, from TX, United States Written on May 20, 2023
This is a fantastic scope for an AR-type rifle intended for the possibility of both CQB and pushing out past 100 yards. Only complaint is that the first one I got had a reticle that was broken into dozens of pieces and of course didn't work at all, but the vendor replaced it with a new one and was shocked it had left the factory that way. I believe I paid a couple hundred more for this than OP is selling it for now.

This scope is rugged, it's easy to use, and the glass is extremely clear. I compared this directly to a Gen2 Vortex Razor HD 1-6 (the Gen3's weren't out yet) and was immediately sold on this. I haven't used the Gen3 Vortex scopes yet so I can't make a comparison there, and someone looking for an LPVO scope should consider that as alternative to this because many people do prefer the Vortex. I find 8x to be plenty of magnification for an LPVO but the Gen3 Vortex goes up to 10x. That difference in magnification probably won't matter unless you're trying to push beyond 400 yards.

The eyebox is more than adequate at 1x and gets tighter as you increase magnification, which always seems to be the case with scopes. The red dot also remains visible as you begin to move out of the eyebox. Overall target acquistion up close is still very quick. I would say that if someone is having issues with this scope, that's probably something that can be overcome with more training. My theory is that people complaining about the eyebox are used to red dot sights and expecting to get ...

Excellent Optic

by Mike, from RI, United States Written on May 12, 2022
I haven't experienced the issues a lot of others have, about eyebox, etc. Granted, it isn't the most generous eyebox, however, when I get behind the rifle, I must have a natural cheek weld and alignment that doesn't cause any issues. I served in the Marine Corps., and shoot from standard shooting positions, like prone, sitting, kneeling, standing, sometimes from a bench, and rapid fire from standing, drills bringing the rifle up etc, and haven't had any issues and personally love this optic, and think it's perfect for me. It is super compact and light weight, so I'm sure there must have been some tradeoffs. I think as long as your rifle is set up correctly, with the right eye relief and length of pull, you should be fine. At least I am. Love this scope. 5 stars. Clear glass and great reticle. Love the zoom range, too.

Scope Perfection

by Robert, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on March 28, 2022
I had read great reviews on the Scope. It performs as Reviewed. Excellent. I am using a fixed Mount now-but will be changing to a detachable mounting system soon. The optics on this Scope is Amazing, and the Zoom is extremely clear with enough resistance to hold its place when set

So much to love, if only it had a half decent eyebox

by Bob, from NC, United States Written on February 8, 2022
The pros have been well stated by others. Illumination, size, weight, durability. In this case though, NF tried to squeeze too much into too small a package. The eyebox is atrocious. If you're always shooting from a bench or standing where you can get a good head position, it may not bother you (probably why there's guys who like it). As soon as you bend down to shoot in weird positions where you can't get a perfect cheek weld (eg running 9 hole drills), the terrible eyebox becomes evident. If you never do anything like that, you probably will like the nx8, but I swear the eyebox was worse than the eyebox on a Strike Eagle. I sold mine for a loss and ended up with a Razor 1-6 and a K16i and I'd take either of them in a heartbeat over the nx8
Pros:
  • Good for nose to charging handle shooting
Cons:
  • eyebox
  • The eyebox
  • Again I say the eyebox

Best scope on the market for variable zoom

by Mark, from CT, United States Written on July 28, 2021
Too many idiots giving poor reviews because they say the reticle is too large at longer distances! The center of the reticle isn’t designed to be on your target at 400 yards, that’s what the Mil-dots are for and the other stadia lines below the reticle. Anyone looking to buy this optic needs to understand that once you zero it, or is zeroed!! It’s up to you to understand how to use the optic at longer distances and utilize the mil-dots and Stadia lines. The problem isn’t the optic it’s the shooter! This is one of the best variable zoom optics money can buy and it’s widely used by law enforcement and military personnel. I have one on my 16” AR and I can hit a man sized target at 500 yards easy, and likely could be hitting targets further out if I had a range that supported it!
Pros:
  • Clarity, durability, reticle,
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Hunting, target shooting, competition

Nothing below 2000$ compares

by blasting on yo mammas face, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on May 2, 2021
I looked at many scopes and red dots in this “mid tier” category between 800-2000$ dollars. I narrowed it down to a vortex razor HD GEN-E 2 for my 300 black out mini fix. This scope is the best scope you can buy before you get into a true “professionals” optic at 2000$+

Pros:
Lightest weight on the market with LEAP mount for 1-8 at less then a pound and half you won’t feel it.
Comparable glass to Vortex Razor and Leupold mark series.
Great illumination tactical horse shoe reticle
First focal plain
Easy zoom adjustment with included lever
Mean looking scope.
Will act as a red dot just fine.

Cons:
Slightly less forgiving eyebox then Vortex but on a bolt action this is a non issue.

Who’s it for: if you’re not using this for PRS then it’s the best of the best under 2000. Suited best for under 700 meters it really shines between 0-500 meters. I’m not a hunter nor do I care or want to ever get into hunting but for plinking or self defense/SHTF this thing slaps. This is not a hunting optic. This is not a “sniper scope”. It belongs best on pushing thee. Accuracy with a mid/close range battle rifle or in my case a 300 black bolt pistol.

NX8 1-8. Great Optic. Service from Optics Planet is Great.

by WILLIAM, from TX, United States Written on April 28, 2021
The optic itself is fantastic. Really enjoy using it on my Q Sugar Weasel. I feel it is a great option for shooting at distances that firearm is capable to.

The only negative I will give the NX8 1-8 is the reticle center dot size. The 1.25MOA center dot is too large for shooting at greater distances. This seems to be a tradeoff allowing the 'dot' to be very bright and extremely useful at lower magnifications and shorter distances.

I knew this from other reviews going into the purchase, and after having used it I am happy. I would not recommend this scope for shooting at long range, but on a 7" 300blk? Oh yea she bad.

The optical clarity, compactness of the scope, and all the other features make this a great package.

This was my first purchase from Optics Planet. I paid over $100 for expedited shipping in the hopes that I would get the scope before a hunting trip. That didn't happen. Optics planet refunded my shipping fee fully without question. Thanks! I feel great about future purchases from Optics Planet.
Pros:
  • Compact, Rugged, Glass
Cons:
  • Reticle too large for long range
Best Used for:
  • Short to Mid Range Engagement

Know what you want

by Sheepdog, Verified Owner from MT, United States Written on April 9, 2021
The whining about the reticle on this scope is wrong. You must know what you're buying, how you will use it and what your needs are. The single mistake Nightforce made with this glass is to put exposed elevation turrets on it. That invites people who are uniformed to start twisting it when they get beyond 100yds. Leave the thing alone and use the excellent reticle that you paid for. It is precise and is there to be used. This was NOT designed to be used like a target scope. Sight it in and shoot it. If you need elevation changes use the wonderful gradations provided. They are there for a reason, not just to take up space on the lense. I watched a near novice hit 1/3 metal men at 300 yds with boring regularity simply by using the reticle properly. That spells dead deer, dead hogs and if you're careful, dead coyotes.
For my part, this will allow my 6.8 with a Wilson Combat 14.7" barrel to shoot 6" groups at 500 yds with a 4 mil hold. Why? I use the hold over as fine cross hairs and like magic, the bullets hit where I aim. That is far more "precision" than I need or most people can shoot anyway. Is it a perfect scope?, nope; they don't exist. Is it one of the best?, without a doubt.
Pros:
  • light weight
  • light weight, very compact, great red dot
Cons:
  • Exposed elevation turret
Best Used for:
  • Tac, hunting, competition
