Disappointing Nikon Quality

by Graybeard327, from CO, United States Written on October 29, 2015
I purchased these binoculars last year for a lightweight compact set to be used for hunting. And I thought the variable power would be a nice bonus for hunting. At first, they seemed to be a nice mix of compact size, light weight and nice features. Unfortunately, after using them for a while, they've turned out to be a major disappointment and a waste of money. First, the caps that are supposed to cover the eye pieces (and keep them clean) are totally worthless, they do not fit the binoculars, and they don't stay on. I actually had to line the inside of the caps with duct tape to keep them from falling off, got tired of cleaning the duct tape residue off the eye cups and finally just quit using them altogether. This I could live with, the other problem is the eye relief. This is something you can't get around, gets to be a real issue and eventually led me to giving these away. You have to hold these binoculars quite a distance from your eyes and even with the eye-cups extended, they sit way too far forward and cause too much instability. This was a real show stopper when hunting, you almost always have to have something available to rest them on or against otherwise they're to unstable to view anything at a distance and pretty much useless at their higher powers. Overall, a real disappointment from Nikon and another "quality" product from China!
Pros:
  • Size, Weight and Variable Power
Cons:
  • eye relief
  • poorly designed
  • Useless Eye protector
