KEG1's Review of Red Rock Outdoor Gear Diplomat 54L Backpack

This is a really big back pack, it's the second one that I have owned. I chose the lightest color to see inside with out using a flashlight. Its poly lined for some rain resistance and the seams are be sewn really well. The zippers are sturdy but pull the tab has flimsy corded knots instead of a plastic clip like my previous pack. The straps are very sturdy too with good padding. I use this every day for work as a train conductor I've never carried it more than a half mile so I couldn't say how it feels after a long hike. It's my mobile office and luggage. It fits comfortable on my back and shoulders. The weight is spread evenly on my body. Mine weighs 35lbs loaded. Make sure that you use the waist strap to ensure your load remains centered when you wear it over longer distances. I keep two changes of clothes, rain suit, my rule books, logbooks computer tablet, hand held radio an extra battery, lantern, pens, markers, and a shaving kit in the two main compartments. In the two side compartments I have extension cords, cables, and chargers as well as more rule books. In the long narrow compartment along the bottom I have my tennis shoes. The front compartments open wide so packing and unpacking is easy with lots of sturdy clips and straps to hold thing is place. Behind the back padding, there is another compartment that can hold a laptop. Plenty of zippered pockets inside for storing smaller things. The attachment points on the back are handy for hanging things. If you plan on using it for hiking trips, camping, or fleeing the coming apocalypse then this is an affordable option. Like I said, this is the second one that I have owned. The first one lasted a little over a year before I tore the two side pockets off (engine doors are very narrow). If you want to get a bag with a lifetime warranty order a Redoxx, but you will pay 5x as much. This bag is a bargain at $60 and it will get the job done no problem. I would buy another without hesitation.
Pros:
  • Large easy access massive storage
Cons:
  • Pull strings on zippers come off too easy
Best Used for:
  • Daily use
Would Recommend: Yes
