I bought a 12 ga. Mossberg 590 Shockwave SPX. It's a great firearm, but it's got a kick to it. Two years ago it didn't bother me. Then I got into an accident at work, and my wrist and two outside fingers don't work quite like they did. It was hard for me to keep control, and I thought about selling the firearm, but it's my truck gun, and it fits perfectly for that purpose. I ordered a brace after watching a few video reviews. I was concerned that the brace would add excessive length to the firearm, making it awkward to maneuver in the cab. It does add about 4 inches to the overall length, but it is not that much more difficult to move in confined areas.
Installation was quick, and easy. Other reviewers have mentioned the plastic to Metal junction of the buffer tube. This could be an easy place to cross thread. I've had the brace on and off a few times for maintenance. I had a little difficulty finding the sweet spot the first time I threaded it, but as long as I don't force anything, it usually goes fairly easily.
The brace does exactly what it is supposed to do. With this brace strapped on my bad wrist, I can handle this firearm like I still had all five fingers working. It's much more reliable, and I don't worry about the firearm jumping out of my hand any more. I suppose it's possible to fire this from the shoulder in an emergency, but the angle on it doesn't line up well, and it's gonna leave bruises if your firing high velocity shells.
