Most Helpful Positive Review Looks good but still undecided
I did a lot of research online and watched a lot of YouTube videos before deciding on a night vision scope. I plan to go feral hog hunting and needed a night vision scope for my AR. The optimal solution would have been a thermal scope but it had several drawbacks. Firstly, the cost of several thousand dollars was out of my budget range. Secondly, you cannot use it in daylight as you would ruin the electronics. To sight it in and zero the scope, you need to use it at night and that means I could not use my normal public range but would have to find an open space somewhere in the country ...

Poor quality/design

by Papabear, from TX, United States Written on April 24, 2021
The first one I got was 20" high at 25 yards with elevation adjustment maxed out. Returned to manufacturer and they replaced it ( customer service was great). The replacement was still off on elevation but was close enough to make it work with adjustable rings. Picture quality, range, etc were all better than expected for the price.... initially. A little over a year out and it just won't ever get perfectly focused. It would still be useable, if it would hold zero. I The issue is with the front of the scope where it attaches to the traditional tube. It visually flexes with the lightest pressure. All the weight is there and combined with the recoil from a rifle it wants to drop down, angling the objective down and moving your impact point up. I used it in 10 or so hogs, so it did what I wanted it it to do, but I'm done zeroing constantly and and adjusting the rings to get it close to zero. I wouldn't even sell it to anyone at this point and see no reason to send it to the manufacturer again, as I feel pretty certain it is a design flaw that will just keep popping up. I had it mounted on a .308, so maybe it would be better with a lighter recoiling round like 5.56
Pros:
  • Great image/range for the price
Cons:
  • poor design
Best Used for:
  • I wouldn't buy another for any purpose, but if you're going to use it, make sure it on a Light recoil rifles

Great scope for the money

by Matt, from NH, United States Written on December 14, 2019
Just came back from a trip to texas and used the Photon to spot and shoot coyotes and raccoons. Was able to clearly see animals at 100 yards, even in dense brush. The onboard IR is great, and the user interface is easy to manipulate and master.

SightMark night vision scope

by Guymudrat, from SC, United States Written on March 25, 2019
Appears to be good night vision scope for hunting. Although, I haven't hunted hogs with it yet. Menu is easy to use. Definitely would recommend that both battery packs are taken with you if you plan to hunt. I will be ordering rechargeable Battery packs because the scope will burn through even ni-cad batteries fairly quickly. The distance that you can see at night is approximately 100 yards with the IR set on 6. If you turn the IR up higher two things happen: (1) the image gets considerably grainier and (2) battery life is shortened. Also this is advertised as a day and night scope- -which it is. However, you still have to turn the unit on and use battery life during the day. Also for the AR-10 that I put this scope on for hog hunting, I had to use two piece 30mm scope mounts in order to set the scope back far enough on the rail to use at the first click of the adjustable stock. I still need to play with the IR light to make sure that it is centered in the center of the crosshairs. There is a small amount of adjustment both up and down and side to side for the IR light. Also there is an adjustment of the actual beam of the IR light from flood light to spotlight. These, adjustments, are nice features and will determine the distance that the image can be viewed and also the view of view. The one item that I am a little concerned about is the rubber flap that covers the port for an external battery pack. It keeps flopping open. This might allow moisture to enter...

Sightmark 6.5x50 rt

by Brandon Mock, from GA, United States Written on March 15, 2019
At first i thought i wasted my money but 3 days later after learning how to adjust it and the settings yeah this scope from factory will view 200+ yards with factory ir illuminator. My contrast is 10 and the ir is only 6 and adjust the focus. The lock ring stays tight just turn the ir. The lock ring is only to adjust ir beam position. My friends want one thanks optic planet for the reviews posted. I wish i could return the coyote ir illuminator i bought bc i dont need it.
Pros:
  • Can see trees and limbs at 200yds
Cons:
  • Need right mounts if on split base
  • Wish the rings came with it owell.
Best Used for:
  • 10 to 250yds hunting

SightMark Photon RT 6-12x50 Night Vision

by Robert Phillips, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on October 5, 2018
Still haven’t completely figured everything out on it yet but what I’ve seen so far it’s pretty awesome, especially for the price. I have it mounted permanently on one of my AR’s just for the fact of the scope mounts, I did have a hard time finding the right mounts for my setup, also notice that the IR light was ok not great so I mounted a “Vampire IR/flashlight “ and with both on it lights everything up like it was daylite. Other than that very please with the Night Vision.
Pros:
  • The video/recording and price!
Cons:
  • Little heavy with batteries in
Best Used for:
  • Good for anything you want to see in the dark, not just for hunting

Roy Winningham

by Deer Slayer, from AR, United States Written on July 3, 2018
Very good value. Not good for daytime hunting but excellent for its intended purpose of twilight, dark, and even total darkness. My only wish was a wider field of view, 6 power is high for scanning. I go out almost nightly and I am amazed at the clarity. At twilight you will be adjusting the focus very often especially when animals are walking but in total darkness very little adjustment is needed. I had a friend come over last night and he was thoroughly amazed at what this scope will do and its abilities.
Pros:
  • Price, clarity, option of reticles, Color of reticles, ability to take pictures and videos
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Twilight and dark
