After the first SDL stopped working 2 weeks after purchasing it, I returned it to the store where I bought it. (The problem was ignition failure.) They kindly gave me a new SDL and I crossed it off as I got a lemon, it happens. A month later, guess what? Same problem. I couldn't coax a flame out of that lighter with a Haitian witch doctor and a chicken sacrafice. I contacted UST and couldn't get a replacement. this is the DUMB part. I love the general design of the thing so, yes, I bought another figuring the odds were in my favor. WELL,.... Worked great for about 3 weeks then, no flame. As I write this, #3 is in my left hand. I depress the ignition switch, the coil turns orange, gas comes out, but no flame. I can light the gas with my Bic lighter. I do a lot of winter camping and my Bic has never let me down; always carry 2 with another in my pack. The SDL is just another pretty face. DO NOT NOT RELY ON IT as your primary source of fire starting. For winter fire starting, keep a couple Bic lighters in your pocket to keep the gas warm, cup your hand as a wind break, lite your fire and save a LOT of money even perhaps your life; I also carry a box of waterproof hurricane matches with me when going up into the mountains.

Bought the UST Delta Stormproof Lighter for backpacking and hunting a couple years ago. Seemed to work fine before a trek, but was inconsistant in lighting and frustrating to use. Broke it out recently for another trek and it simple would not light! Of course I bought supposedly the best butane (NEON quintuple refined premium butane) so have to discount that as a problem. It seems to have good spark so what else? After ensuring it was full of butane and tried again for the umpteenth time, the gas wouldn't stop for about five minutes.
GET YOURSELF AN OLD FASHIONED ZIPPO AND BE SURE TO HAVE A RELIABLE LIGHTER!!
