Most Helpful Positive Review Formula 1 could take lessons on down-force
As a brake, recoil (light as it is already) is minimized. Side-concussion is more than a flash hider, but less than a chamber brake. As a compensator, muzzle rise is non-existent. F1 cars wish they had this much downforce. Slow fire, you can stay in your scope. Rapid fire, you can gas it up and sta...

Most Helpful Negative Review Right handers only
Installed this on a Browning BRN-180. I shoot left-handed. While there is noticeably less recoil than with the stock muzzle device, this brake ejects a volcano of gas directly back into the shooter's face. That may only be an issue on the right side, but it is so pronounced on that side that the gun...

Remarkable product

by tracker25, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on February 11, 2025
This does everything it says it does, my AR was a pretty good flat shooter to begin with. But this is as I said a remarkable piece. Although very pricey, it is also worth the money spent. Keeps your weapon dead on target. After the short learning curve

Great product!

by Richard, from NV, United States Written on January 15, 2025
I have several AR15s with a variety of muzzle devices of many types including the VG6 hands down this one outperforms them all. Running it on an almost all carbon fiber (barrel, stock, buffer, hand guard, grip, and skeletonized lower) super lightweight 16 inch build, this baby still shoots flat as can be. If you’re looking for the best shot control, spend the money, you will not be disappointed. I liked it so much I picked up the 7.62 for a similar AR10 build, absolutely great. If they make one for a 10mm, I’ll be first in line for my banshee 300…

Whenever I get a new AR, this is the first thing I buy.

by Jim, from OH, United States Written on October 17, 2024
I have 3 of them, just ordered 2 more. If you own a gun you're actually going to shoot, the Nero is worth every penny. I just put one on the front of a BCM Recce 16 and that thing shoots flatter than a Laugo Alien in a bench vise. The sight doesn't even leave the target. The Nero is a brilliant piece of engineering.

Very effective brake

by Sandman, from AZ, United States Written on October 16, 2024
I’ve got two Nero’s - one on a .223/5.56 and one on a .300BLK. Both do exactly what they are supposed to do - reduce muzzle rise, and symmetrically eject gasses to the sides and down on my rifles. It’s a unique design, with a look I like a lot.

I was shocked when I first ran the Nero. Excellent control and manageability, even on full-auto. I HIGHLY recommend this unit.

Too expensive, RIDICULOUS muzzle flash.

by Pewpew72, from UT, United States Written on December 14, 2023
Yes, it eliminates recoil and muzzle climb but at the expense of creating the biggest fireball ever seen out of a 5.56/.223. Guess it depends on what you're looking for. If you're using it in a fast shooting competition event or just at the range then ok. But as for real world practicality this couldn't possibly be more useless.

Sci-Fi Looking Brake that Eliminates Climb but Sounds like a Cannon

by Quintus, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on February 21, 2023
I recently purchased a Springfield Hellion and wanted a brake that looked as sleek and futuristic as the rifle itself, while also helping to control the recoil of the rifle. The Nero does all that and definitely caught the attention of other shooters at the range, but not just because it looks like a vacuum cleaner head attached to my barrel. When fired, the gas comes out of this thing in a visible pressure wave and, at least to my ears, radically increases the report of the gun. Shooting 55 grain 5.56 NATO rounds sounded like firing a cannon, so much so that I started to gather a crowd around me as they had never seen a Hellion before and thought I was shooting something of a much higher caliber than I was. While this was certainly cool, it is also a bit embarrassing as I was definitely the loudest person on the range and am not necessarily an attention seeker. I might not use this as my brake of choice in an echoy indoor range as a result. Thankfully, the pressure coming off the sides of this doesn't seem to be any worse than a normal barrel shaped side-vented compensator. As for the the recoil reduction, the Nero actually causes the barrel to DROP a small bit, which if you're used to side to side recoil modification can be off putting at first. But, I was able to shoot tight groups at range with no issues using this.
Pros:
  • Virtually eliminates muzzle climb
  • Sci-fi looks (if you're into that)
Cons:
  • Louder than other brakes
  • Looks like a vacuum attachment (if you're not)

I now own 3

by Mike, Verified Owner from ND, United States Written on April 18, 2022
The muzzle brake is by far one of the best products I have ever purchased. Walker Defefense stands behind their products; and that is something I look for as a consumer. I had an what I thought was a big issue with my order; and the customer support team worked with me to take care of my issue effectively and efficiently. I would definitely recommend buying the Wlaker products; great experience all around. Thanks again.
