This is the second wilson combat barrel that Ive had major issues with. Gas port undersized, gas journal for the gas block is over sized by .005 so gas block doesn't fit. Bolt extention does not lock bolt in tried 5 different bcg sr 25 and ar 10 does not lock up or close fully. My other wilson combat barrel is a 6.8 spc it will not fully chamber any rounds and the rounds get locked halfway in the chamber sent it back to WC they said theres no problems with chamber dimensions sent it back to me to this day it will not take a round fully. WILSON COMBAT SHOULD STICK TO MAKING WATCHES BECAUSE THEYRE BARRELS ARE TRASH AND THEYRE CUSTOMERS SUPPORT SUCKS. NOTHING BUT LOVE FOR OPTICS PLANET THO.

260 Remington Chamber was rough as a cob, cases stuck in chamber. These barrels look terrific on the outside but chambering is junk.
The chamber was not finish reamed or polished so cases would not eject, but stuck in chamber. Sent it back and received a replacement after two months of trouble on the phone and email. Replacement barrel had the same problem, rough machine marks in the chamber. Found out that this is a common problem with their barrels lately, buy reviewing You Tube videos and other online Forums. I had a local gunsmith polish the chamber and re-drill the gas port to the proper diameter. What a pain in the A$$. This ended up costing me about double the price I expected for this new barrel.
I have bought about six of these Wilson Combat barrels and out of the six only one had no quality control problems. Not a good record for Wilson Combat if they want to stay in the barrel business.
Pros:
- outside is finished very nicely
Cons:
- poor quality control
- price is too high for the poor quality machine chambering
- customer service has slow turn-a-round time

Purchased the above barrel from Optics Planet recently. I noticed the gas port looked small when I installed it. Somewhere between .065- 071" seems a little under sized to me.
Upon range testing found that with the gas port fully open it would not feed the second round into chamber and would not lock open on the last shot.
This is with a 3 ounce buffer and the lightest carbine buffer spring I could find. So I am assuming this confirms my assumption of an undersized gas port.
Contacted Wilson Combat and asked what size they normally drill gas port. They said gas port diameter normally drilled for these barrels is .076". Checked the forums and found this:
No possible way this 0.076" gas port will work. Will never happen, with a proper recoil system in place. It's gonna have to be 0.085" minimum, and probably 0.090" in the end. I think it's just gonna get the 0.090" treatment right away. As it is, it's just not right.
So, I will have to gauge the gas port hole and open it up if needed.
Not real happy about this, you would think Wilson Combat would have this figured out by now.
Cons:
- Does not function properly

Great Product, the fit and finish on this barrel was excellent. Would highly recommend this barrel to other people looking for a 243 Barrel that is light and accurate.

Wilson Combat has always been my go-to barrel manufacturer for building AR platform rifles. Have not had the chance to install this one to my Aero M5E1. Though I am sure I won’t be disappointed when I get to take it to the range!

My set up is Wilson combat 20 inch super sniper barrel with a Aero Precision m5 freedom lower receiver and upper aero precision. In the beginning I had cycling issues, I was using a 15.1 gas tube which didn’t work for me . Wilson combat makes a 15.5 gas tube which fit perfectly in my Aero built. After replacing gas tube rifle cycled perfectly. Very accurate I was able to shoot sub moa with target ammo at 100 yards
Pros:
- Looks good
- Very accurate,
- Not as heavy
- fluted barrel

Pros, fit and finish are quite nice, lightweight, very accurate. Cons, the gas port is UNDERSIZED, nonstandard gas tube length, Wilson combat isn't particularly helpful. I installed this barrel in my aero M5 build and was not able to get it to cycle properly or extract. I initially installed a standard rifle length tube, which I found was not the proper length (use the Wilson combat rifle length tube instead). This improved performance somewhat as brass would now occasionally extract, but the gun would still not cycle even while testing the full range of the adjustable gas block to find the right spot on the pressure curve. I contacted Wilson combat, who were not particularly helpful. I would have had to de-barrel (gunsmith costs for me) and ship the barrel back for inspection. I explained that issue and they were unwilling to accept the full upper and deal with barrel installs as a courtesy. After reading that Wilson combat barrels are known for gas port issues, I measured the tube opening which is approximately 0.085". This might be the proper opening for a 20" barrel, but it's very undersized compared to data from other manufacturers for 18" barrels with rifle length systems (between 0.091-0.099). I have access to a machine shop, so I'm lucky that I can make this work, but I'm very irritated that it's been such a hassle and mental exercise getting here. For that reason, and for the cost of this premium barrel, you shouldn't have headaches and shouldn't need to take such...

I purchased a 24" fluted Wilson Combat barrel for my Aero Precision 6.5 Creedmoor. Awesome fit and finish. The negative review had trouble with the gas tube, but I did not have any issues. I used the gas tube off of the Aero Precision barrel and a Wilson Combat gas block. The barrel performs well with 1/2 MOA groups and hoping for the groups to improve as the barrel settles in.
