Mister C's Review of Zeiss Conquest V4 6-24x50mm 30mm Tube Rifle Scope, Second Focal Plane

I literally had this build in mind for a while, and as I iteratively improved my skills did the same with my desired end rifle. I erred in more than 1 place, but the single, most costly, unchangeable mistake I made was in purchasing CONQUEST V4 6-24x50 ZMOA-1.

I had always planned on my whatever longer range build I had planned, initially, had long since set aside a PST, as for my level of skill and budget, a Viper PST Gen II.

In all sincerity, IMO, the use case is irrelevant, though. This scope was literally the biggest mistake I have made in regards to investing since I got into the sport. I literally figured, German-engineered, Japanese-sourced glass, and, at the time, was ~ $400 less than the Vortex. Well, here, it is not. And even then, I wish I had the 900+ back towards the PST. Why everyone reviews the Zeiss as highly as they did/do, I cannot fathom.

After a year? My ONLY positive is the eyebox. which is better than any other scope I own, but not THAT much better to quadruple the cost. The elevation turret failed about 4 months ago. I had to completely disassemble and found that after about 400 rounds, a set screw had loosened, and well, from there, if you know zero stops, you know the rest. This is not the first zero stop I've set by a long shot; never had this happen. Yes, to your question, I used a torque.

Higher magnification has a linear loss in clarity and a reduction in discrimination. It is better than the Osprey trash scope from a show when I was clueless, yes, but, for the price, brand reputation, and glowing reviews I found pretty unanimous before making a last minute change, my expectations were not met. The Conquest v4 is only a tier above my $200 Cabelas brand scopes, I am thinking maybe an Athlon that I toss on inexpensive range toys. Right now, the price is 1:1. I got the Viper, and I saved $400 on what I thought was a great deal. It was not.
Pros:
  • Eye Box
Cons:
  • Clarity at 24x
  • Parallex
  • Elevation Turret Assembly
Best Used for:
  • Wasting money that could have been spent on other better parts
