The Chiappa Firearms X-Caliber 12ga/9mm Gauge Adapter Insert is compatible with +P and +P+ ammunition in light amounts. Heavy use of +P or +P+ will cause excessive wear and degradation, shortening its service life.

Will adapter also allow you to shoot .380 since that is just 9mm x 17? Expert Answer

The Chiappa Firearms X-Caliber 12ga/9mm Gauge Adapter Insert is designed for use with 9mmx19 ammunition. While, yes, you could shoot a 380 through a 9mm barrel the headspacing is different. 380 is 2mm shorter and will have to make a "jump" those extra 2mm which will cause wear and gas cutting. Overtime it will cause more damage and not allow a standard 9mmx19 to seat properly causing dangerous pressure spikes.

Product Info for Chiappa Firearms X-Caliber 12ga/9mm Gauge Adapter Insert

The Chiappa X-Caliber allows a shooter to convert their Shotgun or Rimfire Firearm to fire smaller caliber bullets. This conversion is made possible by using a 9mm Luger cartridge in the chamber, normally used for small arms or home defense purposes, and a 12 Gauge cartridge for range safety or varmint hunting. The conversion, therefore, gives the shooter a narrower barrel with longer shot path, resulting in a more accurate shooting experience. This is a very popular and versatile unit, widely used by the Italian Police Force for training purposes, as an extra forearm for export to Russia, and for home defense purposes in case of small arms fire. Due to the very simple construction, this insert will give the shooter a very long service life. This is due to the very precise manufacturing - no part of the insert is left over which is an empty chamber. When the cartridge chamber is pushed out of the gun, the impact force is absorbed by the bolt and not the frame or locking mechanism. As such, serious damage can result if an X-Caliber is not actuated.image
