A: Ammo prices have increased due to increases in the cost of producing ammunition, arising in part from labor and manufacturing material cost increases like lead and other metals. ![]()
A: OpticsPlanet.com accepts backorders on some products, including ammo. If the product is shown as out of stock and able to be backordered you will see an ETA below the "Place Backorder" button. You may place a backorder now and reserve your place in line for inventory as it becomes available. We do not charge credit cards until orders are ready to ship. Please note that ammunition orders will be filled and shipped as soon as your inventory becomes available.
We are working tirelessly to secure as much inventory as possible, and we have large orders in place with suppliers as we are striving to meet current demand.
Due to volatility and increases in the cost of producing ammunition, arising in part from labor and commodity cost increases, we reserve the right to cancel any backorders or orders at any time.
A: Demand for ammunition has greatly increased over the past year and is currently significantly exceeding supply. Unfortunately, that means many out-of-stock orders might experience extended delays as manufacturers work to fulfill their own backorders to retailers. We do our best to update the ETA when we get new information from our suppliers, but that can also mean the date may change frequently or not at all if we cannot confirm a date from our suppliers.
A: This could happen for several different reasons. We may have taken it off our website until our backorders are filled and we can ensure that we'll have the product available again. It may be that the manufacturer has discontinued the item, changed pack quantities on the item, or changed part numbers due to variations in components.
A: For safety reasons, OpticsPlanet is not able to accept returns of ammunition for any reason, and no refunds will be issued for any ammunition. However, if your ammo order has not shipped, you can cancel the order or contact our Customer Service Team for assistance.
A: For information on lost or damaged packages, please visit our Shipping Help Topic: Damaged Package page.
A: Yes, you can sort by "Price Per Count: Low to High" or "Price Per Count: High to Low" using the "Sort By" feature on the ammunition page. By default, our shopping pages are arranged with "Most Popular" products shown first at the top of the page.
A: On a desktop or laptop, there are sections on the left-hand side of the page that allow you to filter those selections to help narrow your search.
On mobile, the filter is found on the right-hand side of the page above all of the ammunition.
A: There are two ways to do this:
You can use the "Show In Stock Only" filter at the top of the filtering options on the left-hand side of the main Ammunition page or the category pages, like Rifle Ammo, Handgun Ammo, Shotgun Ammo, or Rimfire Ammo. On mobile, this is found in the filters explained above.
If you only want to shop our in-stock ammo, you can visit our In-Stock Ammunition page to browse what we have on hand and ready to ship today. We update this page frequently, so be sure to check back often!
A: Most orders ship within 1 to 3 days. The best way to determine when an order will ship is to review the availability message under the "Add to Cart" button. You will receive regular emails updating you on the status of your order that will also include shipment tracking numbers. We also have a page for Checking Order Status whenever you like!
A: Drop-shipping is very rare in today's ammunition market, and it's very unlikely that any ammo you order would be drop-shipped. The best way to determine when an order will ship is to review the availability message under the "Add to Cart" button.
A: For more information, please visit our Export Policy and Export Restrictions Information page.
A: When you place your order, you will receive an estimate based on when the manufacturer can get the item to our warehouse. Ammunition orders will ship as soon as your inventory becomes available. Please visit our Help Center for more information on backorders. Backorder ETAs are difficult to predict at this time due to supply shortages. If you need ammo soon, we recommend ordering ammo that is in stock.
A: In some cases, when a backorder reaches 6 months, we email customers once a week for 2 consecutive weeks asking if you'd like to keep the backorder. If we receive no response after waiting 1 week from the last email, we cancel the backorder. In other cases, due to volatility and increases in the cost of producing ammunition, arising in part from labor and commodity cost increases, we reserve the right to cancel any backorders or orders at any time.
A: Many times, people are not looking at the exact same SKU, but a similar item (i.e. a different package quantity or other variation of the product). If the SKU on our website matches the SKU on your order confirmation email, and it has not yet shipped, please contact Customer Service.
A: States have different laws and regulations on whether or not ammunition can be shipped to a private residence or business address. Please check with your local authorities for information specific to your area. OpticsPlanet is not currently set up to ship orders to third-party gun stores or retailers. For more information on our domestic ammunition compliance policy, please visit our U.S. Federal, State, and Local Laws / Regulations and Product Restrictions page.
A: We don't sell primers or reloading powder at this time due to compliance and hazmat shipping issues. It's something we're looking into, so check back in the future to see if we've added them to our catalog!
A: Ammunition is a complete cartridge, assembled and packaged so that it can be loaded into a firearm and used immediately after purchase. These are often called "rounds." Bullets are the projectile only, components used for reloading and handloading, and not ready to be fired until the cartridge is assembled using specialized equipment.
