If you're gonna run a can on it then you should not use a crush washer. It is best to use shims. Crush washers compress unevenly and can cause your brake to become misaligned or crooked and you do not want that when running a can.
I have not noticed a significant difference between this muzzle break vs the stock muzzle devices that come with my Ruger rifles. I will point out that the reason you get this specific muzzle device is to use the Silencer Co ASR mount for suppressors. When not running the suppressor you can attach the Kaw Valley ASR linear compensator that will decrease precieved sound for the shooter.
