The flash you experience can be GREATLY adjusted by altering your barrel length and ammunition. As a rule of thumb, a shorter barrel such as a 10.5" will have much more flash than a standard 16" barrel (which is the length we recommend running the NERO 556 on). As for ammunition, it depends on how hot the ammo is as well as the flash retardant in the powder formula. Different brands have differing amounts (and this could vary greatly). We do not market the NERO 556 as a flash hider but you can take steps to reduce any flash you may experience. Using a higher-end .223 Remington duty load designed for LE for example (something like Hornady TAP) can greatly reduce any flash experienced if any on a 16" patrol carbine.

Product Info for Walker Defense Research Nero 556 Hybrid Muzzle Brake and Compensator
Walker Defense Research (WDR) set off to create the ideal compensating muzzle brake by starting from a blank canvas. Their goal was to completely transform the recoil impulse of the AR-15 into a simple, soft rearward push with zero muzzle climb and manageable concussion to still be viable for tactical applications.
To do this, WDR had to reject all design constraints and engineer the NERO 556 from the ground up using computational fluid dynamics and direct metal laser sintering (DMLS also referred to as 3D printed metal). Leveraging these cutting-edge technologies also allowed them to manufacture a device using Inconel, a nickel-chromium superalloy more at home in rockets and jet engines to produce a muzzle brake that had no peer. Whether combat or competition, the NERO 556 is designed to give you the ideal level of controllability and speed.
