This does not have a visible reticle when not powered on. While most rifle scopes will have a reticle even without illumination, most red dot sights such as this do not have a reticle without illumination.

Will this hold up to the recoil of a 12 ga shotgun? I want to put one on my Mossberg 500. Expert Answer

This sight is designed for rimfire, AR-15 rifles, and pistol calibers. While it will hold up to the recoil of a 12ga in terms of durability, it would most likely lose zero over time and would periodically need to be sighted in again.

Haven't taken it to range yet. But when I placed it on my AR 15 it was lined up nearly perfect to my flip up sights. So far doesn't seem to " wash out" in bright light. We'll see how it goes. Probably a good buy for the money............................
