The name Rebeco has been adopted by the Swedish Butchers' Guild. It is a knife that is commonly used in butchering and sharing of venison, and which has its origins in the butter-, cheese- and jam-making days of my youth. My great-grandfather, Carl Muela, who was a butcher in the early days of commercial slaughter, developed the very first synthetic blades from powder steel. He gave the knife a saw-like cross-section, using a chisel and filing it to shape it into the reed of a cutting tool. In this respect the knife is similar to a jack knife, which has a much finer and more complex blade/handle connection, but utilizes two steels and a special grinding process. The latter is much more suitable for creating very dull cutting surfaces. This work of art, together with the very popular and unique Rebeco logo, give a wide range of Muela products a character all of their own.![]()
