This is a thermal rifle scope and it will not work with any other optics. This gets mounted to a firearm and is used as a stand alone product.

Native 1.7x is the setting when you turn on the scope which is rounded up to 2x my the manufacturer. Each time you hit the magnification button it doubles the magnification. It has 3 settings over native. First is 4x, then 8x then 16x. The fourth time you touch the magnification button it returns to 1.7x (2x). As you magnify, you halve the resolution each time also. That leads to a pixilated image which becomes more pixilated as you increase magnification. This impacts the image less so in a 640 model than a 336 model. I would say the Zeus 640 2x or the Zeus 336 3x would be the best compromise in objective lens/resolution/price of the Armasight lineup at the current sale prices (until 1-28-2018) having used several models in the field.
