I cannot recommend this optic for an airgun as ATN makes no mention of these units being air rifle rated. But if you choose too use it, yes it will require an IR illuminator to get a good image and whether you will need an additional battery will depend on how long you will be using the unit, but battery life should be approximately 8-12 hours.

The X-Sight II has marginal night vision at best and he built in illuminator is very weak. The X-Sight 4K Pro is much improved and has a more powerful illuminator, but still limited to about 100yrds. Also the Texan is a Pre-charged Pneumatic which PCPs do not require airgun rated optics as their recoil is nearly identical to that of a powder burner.
