Are the Sweet 17 (3-12x40A/O) scopes rated for a springer air rifle?

No, the Sweet 17 rifle scopes are not compatible with springer air rifles. BSA offers rifle scopes specifically made for spring air rifles under their "Essential Air Rifle Scopes".
