Yes, that option should work.
I am using the Bulldog medium holster for my Star BM. It is a bit deeper than the Star BM requires and the thumb strap was a bit long when run between the hammer and slide when cocked and locked. I shortened the strap and put a new female snap half in the position I required. The pistol fits snug but not tight. The holster takes up the entire space between belt loops on my jeans so there is no moving front or back unless you skip a belt loop.
