The illuminator has a Beam Divergence that can be adjusted between 1-105 MRAD.
Beam on the ATPIAL-C is non-adjustable. Their work around is using different covers on the illuminator to close and widen the beam at distance. They do this to make the illuminator legal to sell to civilians as a class IIIR illuminator. Instead of the full power class IIIb diodes that require LE/MIL letterhead to purchase. To answer your question, the spread at 100 meters is significant and at least a few feet wide. However, it is plenty for most applications with Gen 3 or older tubes. Something like the MAWL-C, however, has low,medium, and high settings for the illuminator and is a much stronger and concentrated beam. It is also double the price.

How they work around it, is through using different illuminator caps that can slightly adjust the “focus” of the illuminator, which came with the product when purchased. The full power ATPIAL (peq-15) is adjustable. To answer your question, I have used the illuminator out to 100 meters and it is a very large circle around the target. If you go with something like a MAWL-C, it has adjustable brightness levels on the illuminator which are a lot tighter and illuminate the target much better than the ATPIAL-C. MAWL-C is also double the cost.
