Actually if you remove the barrel channel via the 3 screws, the bull barrel should free float. No sanding is required if you remove that channel. There is a gap between the barrel and stock once removed. Stock doesn't contact barrel so i would consider it free floating. If you are using a factory ruger barrel be aware that the removable channel does contact a factory barrel and will not free float..
