The dents you are referring to on this Faxon Firearms 300 Flame Fluted Rifle Barrel is called Flame Fluting by Faxon Firearms. Fluting is a way to reduce weight and increase rigidity for a given total weight or increase surface area to make the barrels less susceptible for overheating for a given total weight.
