what does govt/Socom mean building my first ar15 not sure what the differences are?

Manufacturer Answer
A
Answered by Faxon Firearms, Manufacturer from OH, United States, on August 27, 2021

"Gov't/Socom" refers to the profile of the barrel. This means it has a "Government" taper from the chamber to the gas block shoulder (taper from ~.670" diameter to ~.525" diameter) and a straight .740" diameter profile in front of the gas block journal. The Gov't/Socom profile is a classic profile that is fairly standard in the AR-15 world.
