how does the unit turn on? shake awake or by switch?

The Hawke Sport Optics Wide View Reflex Red Dot Sight is powered on by pressing the ‘+’ or ‘-’ button on the side of the sight. The sight will enter standby mode if no movement is detected for 5 minutes. Please note, when on standby mode, power will still be consumed from the battery. The sight can be powered off by holding the ‘+’ or ‘-’ button for 3 seconds.

Is this the same Noblex footprint as the 1x25 reflex sight?

No. The sight is larger than micro sized red dots such as our Micro Reflex Dot, and instead intended to be used with the included weaver base.
