What grain bullet is this scope calibrated for? 17? Or 20?

The .17 HMR reticle is calibrated for 2550fps and a .125 BC, which is common for 17gr ammunition.

No, the .17HMR reticle will not be able to calibrate to the higher velocity of .17WSM.

Will the scope still function, (the reticle still work) when the battery's dead? And how well does the illumination work in bright sunlight?

Illuminated reticles are glass etched and appear black when the illumination is off. Illumination is designed for low light conditions and may be visible in certain daytime conditions such as viewing heavily shaded targets, but otherwise will not be visible in bright daylight.

Will this work for.22 lr ?

Although the aiming points may be calibrated to .22LR by adjusting the zero distance and magnification, the yardages for the .17HMR calibration are etched into the reticle. Instead, we would recommend a general purpose reticle or one of our reticles calibrated specifically for .22LR high velocity, or .22LR sub-sonic.
