This depends a lot on personal preference and what works for you most comfortably. It is popular to mount this optic and many others as far forward on the receiver with out going onto or touching the handguard. It is also common to mount directly over the ejection port a little back from the end of the receiver. At the end of the day some trial and error will help you find what suits you the best.
