The primer for 308 can be for either one. That all depends what your going to do with it. If your going out hunting large primer while everything else you do is smaller primer. Now some brass will take small or larger primer depends on who makes the brass.

4PH7217 and 4PH7217L should be large rifle primer size . And 4PH7226 should be small rifle primer size

The code 4ph7217, is for the Large Rifle Primer. I have a box. Usually, Lapua will state Palma Match for the Small Rifle Primer version. It is also available from OpticsPlanet.
