The Leupold VX-Freedom EFR 3-9x33mm Rifle Scope only has 3" to 3.4" of eye relief. So, if you use this scope and mount it at the forward picatinny rail, you will not have enough eye relief to use the scope. You can use an aftermarket mount to mount the scope above the ejection port, which would then allow you to see through this scope. Or you can use an extended eye relief scope such as the Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32mm 1in Tube Second Focal Plane Scout Rifle Scope which features 9.45" of eye relief, allowing you to mount this scope at the forward picatinny rail on an M1A Scout.
