The ETX refers to the mount. The tube or OTA (optical tube assembly) is the same. The autostar hand controller is also the same The advantage of the ETX model is it’s more sturdy and stable, the tripod is more robust giving you a steadier viewing experience. The base on the ETX has a polar align option which allows you the ability to take astro photos more successfully than with the StarNavigtor. It’s definitely worth spending a few extra dollars. When you want to step up into a larger telescope the ETX will sell in the secondary market.
This has over 30,000 database objects. Setup is minimal, it just requires a brief alignment procedure and it's ready to go. It would just require power, either 8 AA batteries or external power from a wall outlet. It will track with a camera attached for photography, however you would still have to manually trigger the camera to take the images.
