Does it have an on off switch? Or is it motion activated only?

The MPO-DF has manual up/down brightness buttons (which can also power the unit on or off) in addition to its automatic brightness sensor and shake-awake motion activation feature, so it is not motion activated only.

The Meprolight MPO-DF can be turned on with a single press to the left side activation button. Press and hold the side activation button for 7 seconds to power off.

Yes. There should not be any issues running an MPO-DF on a Beretta 1301 shotgun.
