That is correct. the MCTAR-20XG2 requires a mil-spec Gi barrel nut. the ruger 556 uses a proprietary barrel which is not a GI barrel nut. you would need to replace the ruger nut with a gi barrel nut. https://www.opticsplanet.com/aero-precision-ar15-standard-barrel-nut.html
You're gonna need a mil-spec barrel nut. Warning though, removing the barrel nut on an AR556 is an absolute nightmare! Took me and 2 other guys with a breaker bar to get one off!
