can this be mounted to a rifle behind a red dot?

It's possible to mount behind a red dot, it has 2 mount hole to be installed with camera screw on a mount, but the device is not designed for real shooting, so suggest it is used for airsoft etc low recoil device.

What distance is this good for? And can it be mounted front or rear of scope?

The NightStar 4x50mm Digital Night Vision Monocular has a maximum detection range of 200m. It does not have to ability to be mounted on a rifle or scope. It is designed to be a handheld monocular.
