It is more of an "open box". There should be no functional issues as they should be purely cosmetic. The warranty is still valid.

what does "demo" mean on these binoculars

Demo means they were handled by people interested in buying them. Such as looking though them and checking them out hands on. There still brand new but discounted because they might have been handled and have minor flaws such as prints or scratches. But work like brand new
