What is the purpose of the bolt sticking through the middle of the adapter? I assume it is screwed into a threaded hole.

That is an alternative thin screw/knob to use with binoculars that have a more narrow space between the lenses.

Will this adapter work on a NIKON ACULON A211 10X42 and fit any standard tripod with 1/4 20 bolt?

Will this work with other brands of binoculars? What size is the attachment screw going into the binoculars?

This should work with most other binoculars that are threaded for an adapter under the center portion of the binocular. The threading is the standard 1/4x20 for both the male binocular screw and the bottom tripod female threads.

Yes, this accepts the standard 1/4"-20 tripod lug.

Does this bino adapter work with the prostaff line of Nikon binos?

Per Nikon customer service it will not work with the Prostaff line of binoculars, however the following tripod adapter will:
