I have an AR chambered in 7.62x39 but the barrel threads is 5/8x24. And it says that the .308 caliber thread is the 5/8x24. Can I use the .308 instead — 2 Answers

No, because 7.62x39mm bullets are commonly up to .311 inches in diameter.

Nominal size difference between a bullet and the inside diameter of a muzzle break should be .020 or bigger. The bullet diameter of your 7.62x39 is .001 to .003 inches bigger than a .308 win, so more than likely it will be fine, but it's highly encourage you to find what the inside diameter is of the break before ordering.
