It does have changeable batteries. This unit uses the Pulsar APS 3 battery packs.

The unit dimensions are 143mmx41mmx69mm and it weighs 8.82oz. This is a handheld unit that does not accommodate helmet mounting solutions.

what does a bad pixel appear as? Is it a blank spot a line or a small dot?

If its a single pixel, normally its a tiny white or black dot. If its multiple pixels then it could appear as a line or multiple small dots.

What year was this released and how does it compare to other units . What is the warranty

Most of Pulsar's new generation of thermal devices were released within the last couple years, however to find out the exact year this was released you would have to contact Pulsar directly. It is an excellent monocular with mid-level 320x240 resolution thermal core. It has a 3 year warranty.
