The Ruger Mark IV model 40105 has a drilled and tapper receiver. The holes on the top are designed for a Picatinny or Weaver rail to be mounted on top. The Ruger Mark III, Mark IV & 22/45 Picatinny Mount, will work with that model Ruger Mark IV.

Can I install this rail without removing the original sights?

Expert Answer
A
Answered by Mark H., Gear Expert, from IL, United States, on September 18, 2019

You can if you like - it can be mounted in two ways.

The first allows you to mount it just in front of the the rear sight without having to remove it.

The second option is to mount it reversed. In this position, the mount is flush with the front of the receiver and it extends back over the dovetail where the rear sight was removed.

Removing the rear sight makes for an sleek installation, but it can be attached without removing the rear sight.
