Will this fit in place of a buttstock on a standard AR buffer tube?

Yes, the SB Tactical SBA5 will fit any Mil-spec carbine length receiver extension/buffer tube.

I have a 11" barrel on my AR 9mm. SB tactical calls this a pistol brace and OP calls this a rifle brace. Is this a rifle or pistol brace?

This is a pistol brace. Will work on your AR9. It has the strap for arm brace required for pistol.

The SB Tactical SBA5 5 Position Adjustable Rifle Brace does not include a buffer tube. It is compatible with mil-spec carbine receiver extensions.
