I have discovered that taping aluminum foil over the “bulls eye” of a paper target works great! (At least with the brand and model of thermal that I am familiar with)

I use hand warmers to sight in my AR15. Works great even with our Texas heat in the summertime. They are cheap and give off a really great thermal signal. Tape it over bullseye on a Shoot-N-See target then it is easy to see how far you are off with spotting scope.
