As per Springfield Armory, the M-2 BIPOD "Does not fit SOCOM rifles".

I have a m1a loaded do I need an adapter for the bipod or just the bipod?

It should fit the Loaded version of the M1A without any additional adapter.

This is an 8" bipod, made from steel. There are no springs. Unfortunately the manufacturer does not provide a weight for this bipod.

No, it will not work on AR rifles. It will only work on the M1A rifle.
