We have an AR-15(Armalite) with a quarter mount on the barrel. Will this work as a barrel grip and how does it stay attached?

This grip will fit to a picatinny rail. If your rifle has one, this will fit.

Is the storage a screw cap or a snap-on cap? What is the grip material??

The cap is a friction based plug, it does not screw in. The grip (and the plug) are made of a rubberized polymer.
