Can this Cap be used on either end of the handguards? I'm new at this.

This cap is to hold the front of the handguard. It lies behind the front sight block. To hold the rear of the handguard you would need a delta ring.

Will this work on your quad rail systems? Look to replace the 12" hand guards on an XM-15 w/ a 10" quad rail, my retainer plate is triangular, thanks

Yes, this will work on quad rail systems that fit the circular caps.
