The buttons are positioned directly behind the light at the top rear of the device. You will have to slightly alter the position of your thumb upward. You can shoot with your thumb on the controls with no difficulty should the need arise.

Buttons are directly above the grip portion at the 6 O'clock position of the light. Thumb positioning must be slightly altered but your overall hand positioning requires no movement.
